Job Description
Performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing, analysis, and associated interventions, under the general oversight of a clinician. Maintains and cleans equipment. Maintains required documentation.
Job Responsibility
- Interviews patient and gathers patient history, physical information, medications, procedure requests and study protocols.
- Identifies and assesses any signs, symptoms, special factors and co-morbid conditions.
- Provides patient education, communicates procedure, and answers questions to ease apprehension and produce comfort and cooperation.
- Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning.
- Documents routine observations, including sleep stages, clinical events, procedural changes and other significant events in order to facilitate interpretation and scoring of polysomnography results.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment and education of all age groups.
- Disinfects and performs preventative maintenance on equipment according to established protocols.
- Complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures regarding safety and infection control issues.
- Implements appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.
- Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.
Job Qualification
- Associate’s Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Current License to practice as a Polysomnograph Technologist (Sleep Tech) in New York State, and Current Basic Life Support Professional Certification required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
- Active RPSGT certification
- 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
